This was the article written by Mike Klis of the Denver Post about the singing of the Star Spangled Banner being cancelled so that the rain-delayed Miami-Pgh Monday Night Football game would not be further delayed. I suspect this because:
1. The article is replete with grammatical errors.
2. It reads like the token conservative piece written by the kid from College Young Republicans for a campus paper (and it’s probably unfair to CYR to say that).
3. Vince Neill from Motley Crue was supposed to sing.
4. The Star Spangled Banner has only been played at sporting events since World War II and it was started then to help sell war bonds.
5. The Steelers have done much more patriotic acts, such as give Rocky Bleier his old position back when he returned from Vietnam despite a foot injury from a wound caused by a mortar shell that earned him a Purple Heart.
So is Yahoo giving this sad piece of writing international prominence as satire, or as competition for Fox News?
Christopher Hitchens is an academic whose expertise is debating and disputing controversial religious, philosophical and political issues. Although famously anti-religious, Hitchins told an interviewer that he thinks all educated people should have knowledge of the Bible. He also confirmed that his children have been instructed in religious history. However, in this brief clip he reveals his distain for Scientology by describing it as a Racket and a Con-Job.
Politics: No More Polls
Mar 9
I think polls give politicians too much info aboutwhat we want them to be/say. No more.
www.globalchange.com Most politicians in most democratic countries agree on most things. Just look at how rare it is for a new government to undo legislation passed by the previous administration. Despite all the political posturing, the real debates are not about differences in manifesto promises (often overtaken anyway by global events), but about who has the most competent and experienced leadership team. Most energy in politics today is about single issues such as Iraq, genetically modified food, stem cell research or global warming. Politicians will only have a chance of recovering respect if they start keeping to the truth which is that consensus rules and the opposition are on the whole sensible people with decent policies. Future of political parties, capitalism, socialism, middle ground, third way, liberal democrats, conservatives, labour, conservative party, green party, republicans, democrats, presidential election, America.
